Local residents in connection with Operation: Savannah Cares are collecting items to be shipped to our military personnel who have been deployed to serve and protect our country.

     Collection boxes will be at Screven County Elementary School, Screven County Middle School, Screven County High School and the Screven County Sheriff's Department.

     Any club, church or group interested in adopting a soldier may contact Mrs. Heindel or Mrs. Mills at 564-2081 or Mrs. Reffner at 564-2013.

The items needed are:

• No pork products

• Bottled water

• Clothes pins

• Toothpaste/toothbrush

• Bar soap/soap dishes

• Deodorant (no aerosol cans)

• Lip balm

• Lotion

• Disposable razors

• Shaving cream

• Small packs of Kleenex

• Nail clippers

• Shampoo

• Hair products for Black hair

• Individually wrapped wet toilettes

• Hand washing gel

• Sunscreen

• Small mirrors

• Cold water detergent

• Miscellaneous Items

• Snacks (chocolate melts)

• Paperback books - used ones OK

• Notepaper/envelopes (they can mail letters free)

• Pens

• Movies - used ones OK

• Magazines

• Crossword puzzle books

• Deck of cards

• Football

• White tube socks

• Board games - UNO, Yachtzee, Monopoly, etc.

• Handheld games
