Continuing Projects
Arbor Day at
the Screven County Elementary School: The SCGC along with the local
State Forester and Keep Screven Beautiful, plant a tree at the Screven
County Elementary School on Arbor Day.
Beauty Spot of
the Month: Each month a home or business is selected for its
outstanding landscaping, colorful trees/shrubs, beautiful
annual/perennial beds or attractive container gardening.
Cail Community
Center Beautification: The SCGC conducts monthly meetings in this
building, and continues to beautify the premises with crape myrtle
trees, lantana and other perennials and annuals.
Christmas
Festival of Trees: The SCGC participates in this annual event
sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority.
Christmas Tour of
Homes: Biannually the SCGC sponsors a Christmas Tour featuring 4-6
homes and one or two commercial or public buildings which are of
special interest.
Citywide
Christmas Decorations Contest: Every year the SCGC sponsors this
event. A group of out-of-town judges select the best decorations
in a number of sub-categories under the umbrellas of Traditional,
Fantasy and Religious.
Design Workshops:
Members who love creating designs and winning blue ribbons present
demonstrations and hands-on techniques to less experienced members.
Workshops are schedules for September 14, 2007, January 28, 2008,
March 10, 2008 and September 19, 2008.
Flower Show 2008:
Biannually the SCGC holds this event.
Garden Therapy:
This committee designs and sews all the beautiful stockings given to
one of the State hospitals at Christmas.
Livestock
Festival Parade Float: The SCGC has a float in the annual Screven
County event.
Middle School
Greenhouse: This ongoing project enables the SCGC to work with
Mrs. Schneider's eight grade science class from October to April each
year.
National Garden
Week: The SCGC arranges for the Mayor of Sylvania proclaims this
week as National Garden Week in Sylvania. There is also an exhibit at
the Screven County Library and at
the Screven County Extension Office.
Sampler Floral
Designs: The SCGC exhibit various designs and meets potential new
members at this annual arts and crafts show sponsored by the Sylvania
Junior Woman's Club.
Blue Star
Memorial Marker: The SCGC holds a luncheon to raise money for the
Blue Star Memorial Marker.
Downtown
Afternoon/Evening in the Park: The SCGC participates in
this themed picnic celebration downtown.
Downtown
Beautification: The SCGC has partnered with the Downtown
Development Authority in planting and maintaining seasonal beds,
hanging baskets and container plants in the downtown area.
